Following in the footsteps of Santigold, Spank Rock and freaky rap duo Die Antwoord, Azealia Banks has been named the new face of T by Alexander Wang.
In a new video for the campaign, Banks struts and pouts for the camera as she sings pieces of “Van Vogue,” a clubby cut from her 1991 EP. “Where’s my crown,” she raps as she tosses her mermaid hair around in vampy swishes.
“She exudes a certain rawness that makes her a very unique talent,” Wang told Style.com. “I loved working with her on this video for T Fall 2012, and think the collaboration captures a collision of energies.”
The feisty femme rapper is no stranger to high fashion. She’s collaborated with Lady Gaga‘s frequent stylist, Nicola Formichetti, on her flashy “Liquorice” video. In January, Banks debuted her song, “Bambi,” during a Mugler fashion show in Paris, a track that samples and distorts The Black Ghosts‘ “Repetition Kills You.”
Earlier this year, Banks accompanied Wang to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Met Gala.
Her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, is set to be released in September.
