BAFTA has announced its finalists for the 2017 Student Film Awards.
Nine students have been chosen out of 400 submissions from film schools in 15 countries. Finalists come from USC, U.C. Berkeley and UCLA, as well as international programs at the University of London and University of South Wales.
Winners will be chosen in three categories: live action, animation and documentary; there is also a special jury prize. The animation prize now boasts a new sponsor in Laika Studios, the Oregon-based stop-motion house responsible for Oscar nominee Kubo and the Two Strings.
The BAFTA student film awards are meant to identify up-and-coming young filmmaking talent from a wide range of backgrounds.
The winners will be announced during a June 22 gala ceremony at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.
