LONDON — BBC Two’s gangster family epic Peaky Blinders, featuring Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory, leads the field with six nominations for this year’s British Academy Television Craft Awards. The awards are handed out by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and aim to honor the best behind-the-scenes talent from television and new media.
Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst is among the show’s six nominations in the best director, fiction category.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony in the British capital April 27.
ITV’s police crime-drama Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, scored five nominations, while Channel 4’s Utopia picked up four nominations. Both shows are produced by Kudos, a division of Elisabeth Murdoch‘s Shine Entertainment.
Other programs with multiple nominations at BAFTA’s craft awards include Doctor Who drama An Adventure in Space and Time, Sky 3D’s David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive 3D, and crime drama Luther, starring Idris Elba, and Top of the Lake, directed by Jane Campion, all with three apiece.
The Academy also said actor Stephen Mangan, the star of Episodes, will return to host the BAFTA Television Craft awards this year.
Hit costume drama Downton Abbey secured one nomination in the costume design category for Caroline McCall.
