BANFF, ALBERTA – The HBO documentary Koran by Heart grabbed the top grand jury prize at the Banff World Media Festival’s Rockie Awards Tuesday night.
The doc from director Greg Barker and Passion Pictures and Motto Pictures also won for best kids and animation program in Banff for following three 10 year-old children in a competition to memorize sections of the Koran.
Other jury prizes in Banff include the best drama prize going to Lifetime’s Five, an anthology of films by directors like Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston, while the best entertainment show was What If?, the Belgian comedy for VMMa from producer Shelter.
And the best documentary went to Germany’s To Russia With Jazz, produced by Sarabandefilm for Westdeutscher Rundfunk, while another German program, We Rettet Dina Foxx?, from teamWorx and UFA Lab, won for best interactive program.
