A Batman fan film, with a hefty budget and several surprising cameos, has gone viral. Batman: Dying is Easy went live on YouTube on Wednesday and already has more than 1.6 million views.
The impressive production from father and son Aaron and Sean Schoenke, which runs nearly 30 minutes long, enlists numerous big-name actors the likes of Michael Madsen, Doug Jones, Casper Van Dien and musician Chris Daughtry.
“Batman and Joker have always had such an interesting psychological relationship, it’s those dark concepts that make the characters so interesting,” reads the film description. A lion’s share of the film is Batman and the Joker squaring off at Arkham Asylum.
Kevin Porter plays a menacing Batman, Aaron Schoenke a maniacal Joker and Jones a remarkable Riddler, among the well-executed cast performances, including stuntwoman Amy Johnston as Harley Quinn.
The Schoenkes were able to raise more than $75,000 through the crowdfunding site Indiegogo for the project. “We want to give the fans something they’ve always craved with these characters. A psychological, dark detective story with an almost horror film feel. This film is created by fans for the fans. This film will feature all original costumes, sets, and music score!” read the Indiegogo pitch.
