This newest film picks up nine years after Before Sunset, with the series’ main characters, Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy), married and on vacation in Greece. Unlike the other films, which focus on the couple’s undeniable attraction to each other, Before Midnight takes a look at how their relationship has changed after they say their vows and explores whether the passion the two once shared is still there.
As with Before Sunset, Before Midnight is written by Linklater, Hawke and Delpy, who received Academy Award nominations for their 2004 work. Linklater also serves as director of the film.
Before Midnight is set to hit theaters May 24. Watch the trailer below.
