Soft-spoken retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is catching Donald Trump in the Republican presidential polls. He covets the black vote and to secure it, according to ABC News, the campaign says the candidate is “reaching out and talking to them in a language that they prefer … and in a cultural format that they appreciate.”
The Ben Carson hip-hop song, features a collaboration with the rapper Aspiring Mogul, and includes clips of Carson speeches with lines like, “I’m very hopeful that I’m not the only one who’s willing to pick up the baton of freedom.”
According to ABC, Carson spent $150,000 for the radio ad to air for two weeks in Miami; Atlanta; Houston; Detroit; Birmingham, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi; Memphis, Tennessee; and Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Carson team’s plan is to get 20 percent of the black vote, which it feels would be enough to defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election.
