MONTREAL – Canadian drama producer Cineflix Studios has signed a European distribution deal with German distributor Beta Film for Copper, the 10-hour crime drama series for BBC America show-run by Tom Fontana.
The agreement, unveiled at MIPCOM 2011, sees Beta Film taking the rights for Germany, France, southern and eastern Europe and Asia, among other territories.
Beta Film earlier took the worldwide rights to Fontana’s Borgia.
Copper, set in 1860s New York City, is about a rugged Irish-immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points neighborhood.
Fontana created Copper with Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland).
Both will executive produce the series along with Barry Levinson and Christina Wayne, president of Cineflix Studios.
Cineflix Rights is shopping Copper worldwide, excluding North America.
The European deal was brokered by Cineflix Studios’ Nick Witkowski and Oliver Bachert acting for Beta Film.
Copper is set to shoot in Toronto starting in January 2012.
