Colorado Springs’ stately Broadmoor hotel has hosted everyone from Prince Harry to Jay Leno, and just about every president from Herbert Hoover on. But for people who are seeking a more rugged lodging option, there is its just-opened Ranch at Emerald Valley, a cluster of 10 cabins that were built in the early 1900s and have now been restored and majorly fancified. An eight-mile, dirt-road trek from the 744-room hotel takes you to the ranch, located right next to the 100,000 acres of Pike National Forest. The cabins, which are clustered near Little Fountain Creek and a pair of fishing ponds, include Hill House, a two-story, 3,000-square-foot log house with a private fire pit, soaking tub and chef’s kitchen that comes with a private chef for the asking. Located 25 miles southwest from Telluride in the Colorado Rockies, the just-opened Cresto Ranch is the sister property of the uber-exclusive Dunton Hot Springs, where Christy Turlington and Ed Burns recently Instagram’d their trip. Located four miles downstream from the main resort right along the Dolores River, the boutique camp includes eight, 800-square-foot safari-style canvas tents. This isn’t your basic Coleman operation: The tents have wood-plank floors, king beds, wood-burning stoves and deep soaking tubs in the en-suite bathrooms. The Ranch at Rock Creek, Philipsburg, Mont.

The Ranch at Rock Creek offers the best ways to get back to rugged basics without exactly roughing it. Simon Fuller, Carrie Underwood and Vince Vaughn have reportedly stayed at this sprawling, 6,600-acre dude ranch, where log cabins and “canvas cabins” (half log, half tented) strike that luxuriously rustic sweet spot: Think plaid wool blankets with 400-thread-count Frette sheets. The Trapper Cabin is the most secluded spot at the resort — a 600-square-foot, partially tented one-bedroom retreat that’s yards from Rock Creek and miles from the resort’s hub. There’s no shortage of ridiculously out-there Rocky Mountain resort amenities, but the most unusual new “treatment” award goes to The Sebastian in Vail (Michelle Obama, The Jonas Brothers) for its Guns & Roses package for guys.
