Jenny Bicks has inked an overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television.
As part of the two-year pact, The Big C showrunner will create and develop original comedy and drama programming primarily for broadcast. Bicks, who will produce through her Perkins Street Productions, makes the move from Sony Pictures TV, where she has spent the past two years.
Bicks’ ability to move seamlessly between the comedy and drama genre throughout her career was among the selling points for 20th TV chairman Dana Walden, who acknowledges that she and Gary Newman have been trying to get into business with Bicks for the past six or seven years.
“What was appealing to us about Jenny as a writer is how versatile she is and that she has this incredible voice,” Walden tells The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of the success that we’ve had at this studio has come from placing bets on creators who have strong points of view and great comedic voices, and that’s what we’re going to look to Jenny to tap into as she starts developing for us.”
Added Bicks, who was pursued by multiple studios: “I am thrilled to be in business with my new partners at 20th Century Fox TV. They’re smart, funny, open and accomplished. They’re also closest to my house.”
Before Showtime’s Big C, Bicks created the ABC dramedy Men in Trees and the NBC comedy Leap of Faith, but it was her lengthy turn as an executive producer on HBO’s Sex and the City that earned her a collection of Emmy, Golden Globe and Producer’s Guild awards. Big C will air its final season featuring four hourlong episodes in 2013.
Bicks, whose film credits include the upcoming Hugh Jackman movie musical Barnum for Fox, is repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
