Bill Hader made a surprise appearance as former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Thursday night’s premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s “Summer Edition” of Weekend Update.
Insisting he be called “Mooch” at all times, Hader interrupted the broadcast, anchored by Colin Jost and Michael Che, via FaceTime. “When I hear my name three times I appear like a Goomba Beetlejuice,” Hader said.
When asked about his expletive-laden rant about fellow White House staff members, Hader did his best to censor his words. “How can I say this for the censors? I said Steve Bannon was s—ing his own C,” Hader said. “By the by, I was completely misquoted. I didn’t say that Bannon tried to S his own C … he did it!”
When Che asked if he wished he could have stayed at his post for longer than 10 or 11 days, Scaramucci assured him he had no regrets.
“All I did was sell my company, miss the birth of my child and ruin my entire reputation,” he said, “all to be king of Idiot Mountain for 11 days.”
Before signing off, Hader’s Mooch tried to capitalize on the situation by asking for a position on the program. “You guys hiring over there, because I tell jokes now: Hickory dickory dock, Steve Bannon was sucking —” he said, before being cut off.
Scaramucci has also recently been impersonated on Comedy Central’s The President Show, which stars Anthony Atamanuik as POTUS, as well as by several late-night hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah and Seth Meyers, during his 10-day run at the White House.
Mario Cantone, after catching on to a social campaign for the actor to play Scaramucci on SNL, appeared as the former White House communications director on The President Show alongside Atamanuik’s President Trump. Foreshadowing things to come, Trump invited him to the podium as “my favorite new team member, who I will eventually betray.”
Cantone started off as an aggressive Scaramucci, mocking his battle with Reince Priebus, which was then heating up. “I’m gonna fire so many people. I don’t know who it’s gonna be, Reince, but I’m gonna get to the bottom of the leaks in the White House. Do you hear me, Reince?”
SNL‘s primetime run of Weekend Update began Thursday and runs for four weeks on NBC. “SNL is having its best season in a quarter of a century — how many shows can say that?! — so we didn’t want them to take the summer off,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement this March announcing the summer run.
