The pair were on the topic because Murray was talking about working with his young co-stars in the upcoming movie On the Rocks, and Kimmel asked if he ever let one of his children watch something at too young an age.
“I took my one son to see Kingpin when it came out, and I had not seen most of the movie. I had only seen the scenes I was in,” Murray said of the raunchy 1996 Farrelly brothers comedy in which he starred alongside Woody Harrelson. “He was 10, and I thought it was a bowling movie. So, we walked out [of the theater] in total silence — and we walked a long way to a parking garage that was like two-and-a-half, three blocks away. And we finally got to the car and without a word, without any speech, he said, ‘You were good, dad.'”
Murray also made some headlines Tuesday when, in a separate interview, he said he is game to host an upcoming presidential debate — as long as there is enough coffee.
The actor appeared randomly on Fox Business while Robert Wolf was being interviewed on The Claman Countdown. Murray is friends with Wolf, the former chairman and CEO of UBS Americas, and just happened to be hanging out on his couch in the background during the interview.
Host Liz Claman was both shocked and delighted when she figured out who was in the background and, naturally, had to include Murray in the interview. It was Claman who suggested Murray host a debate, to which he replied, “A couple of cups of coffee, I think I could do it.”
Murray did not chime in much other than that; he just sat in the background and flipped through a book, in typical Murray fashion.
The actor stars in the upcoming Sofia Coppola movie On the Rocks. The film also stars Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans. The A24 film, under its new partnership with Apple TV+, is about a young New York mother (Jones) who is faced with sudden doubts about her marriage with husband (Wayans) and teams up with her audacious playboy father (Murray) to investigate her husband.
On the Rocks will premiere in selected theaters and on Apple TV+ this month.
