Billy Campbell is heading back to the crime scene.
The former star of AMC’s The Killing is joining Karine Vanasse (Revenge, Pan Am) as stars of Cardinal (working title), the upcoming murder mystery drama from Sienna Films and Entertainment One for Canada’s CTV. Campbell will play a dogged detective named John Cardinal who is burdened by a wrong he committed years ago.
Vanasse will play Cardinal’s partner, Lise Delorme, a shrewd investigator from a small town’s French-speaking community. The six parter follows Cardinal as he tries to uncover the mystery of what happened to Katie Pine, a missing 13-year-old girl, while coming under investigation by Delorme, his new partner.
Orphan Black writer-producer Aubrey Nealon is show-running the book-to-TV adaptation developed by Sienna Films and CTV. Cardinal is based on John Cardinal Mysteries, a crime novel series written by author Giles Blunt.
Production on the drama will start in February 2016 in northern Ontario. Worldwide distribution for the series will be handled by eOne.
The indie studio develops, produces, acquires and distributes programming, including AMC’s Hell on Wheels, Halt & Catch Fire and Sundance’s The Red Road. Besides The Killing, Campbell’s TV credits include Once and Again, The 4400 and Killing Lincoln.
Vanasse is also starring in the upcoming French-language drama Blue Moon.
