LONDON — U.K. video-on-demand banner blinkbox.com has secured 600 hours of free programming for the site, striking deals with British company’s Shed Media’s Outright Distribution and Target Entertainment Group.
Outright Distribution has licensed over 70 hours of its catalog to blinkbox allowing customers to stream programs such as “Waterloo Road,” “Footballers’ Wives,” and “Bad Girl” for free on an ad-supported basis.
Target Entertainment Group has agreed to license over 100 hours of TV including “Billable Hours,” “The Cut” and “Corner Gas.”
Michael Comish, CEO and co-founder of blinkbox said: “The last two years has seen many notable VOD services either go bankrupt or not enter the U.K. market. In that time, we have amassed a library of over 6,000 of the best films and TV shows in the world and attracted an audience of more than 1.2 million users a month.”
All3Media International, an existing partner of blinkbox, has also added a further 160 hours of free ad-supported programming including “Skins,” “Embarrassing Bodies” and additional season cycles of “Shameless” and “Peep Show.”
Existing partners Fireworks International, 3DD Entertainment and Eagle Rock have also expanded offerings on blinkbox, Comish said.
