Bob Geldof is reportedly considering releasing a fourth version of the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” according to The Sun.
The Boomtown Rats singer is reaching out to potential artists for a December release that would coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original song. The Sun is reporting that the fight against the Ebola epidemic in West Africa would be the primary motivation and beneficiary of any new single.
A source told The Sun: “Bob started casually getting in touch with people earlier this month. A few big names were very surprised to see he had emailed them just asking if they would be interested in being part of a project. … He didn’t make any formal requests, but he wanted to gauge an idea of who was potentially available.”

Written by Geldof, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” was performed by charity super group Band Aid and featured Bono, George Michael, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran and Boy George, among others, with Midge Ure producing. The original song topped the U.K. charts and all the money from sales went to relieve those affected by famine in Ethiopia.
Two more versions of the single were released in 1989 and 2004.
