Martin Campbell has signed on for The Last Resort.
The Casino Royale director is set to executive produce and direct the futuristic thriller pilot, which ABC commited to produce last summer. He joins The Shield‘s Shawn Ryan and Dead Like Me scribe Karl Gajdusek, who will also serve as writers.
Resort, from Sony Pictures Television, revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who, after ignoring an order to fire nuclear missiles, wind up being hunted and escape to a NATO outpost where they declare themselves to be the world’s smallest nuclear nation.
This marks a return to the small screen for New Zealand-born Campbell, who spent much of his early career working in British television. His mid-1980s BBC Television drama Edge of Darkness won him a British Academy Television Award for Best Director.
Campbell, whose other credits include GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro and Green Lantern, is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
