Boston Marathon Bombing: Obama Says ‘We Will Find Out Who Did This and Hold Them Responsible’

President Obama made a brief statement Monday afternoon regarding the Boston Marathon bombing, vowing to find and punish those responsible.

The networks broke into their ongoing coverage of the tragedy, which left at least two people dead and north of 90 others reportedly being treated in hospitals, to air live coverage of his remarks around 6:10 p.m. EDT.

“We’re still in the investigation stage at this point,” Obama said. “We will find out who did this and will hold them accountable.”

He was careful not to call the attack an act of terrorism and said that it’s still unclear who is responsible.

“We still do not know who did this or why,” he said. “We should not jump to conclusions before we have the facts.”

Obama said the “full resources of the federal government” are being made available to the local and state government in the investigation. He added that those responsible will be punished.

“Make no mistake: We will get to the bottom of this,” he sad. “We will find out who did this and why they did this. Any responsible individuals and responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.”

Obama also praised the police, firefighters, National Guard and other first responders and added that he and first lady Michelle send their “deepest thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims in the wake of this senseless loss.”

He also noted that this is a time to put politics aside.

“On days like this, there are no Republicans or Democrats,” he said. “We are Americans, united in concern for our fellow citizens.”
