LONDON – U.K. TV broadcaster Channel 4 said Tuesday that it has taken a farcical film about a fictional attack ploy with explosives during the London Marathon off the schedule of its film network following the Boston Marathon bombings.
“In light of recent tragic events, Film4 has decided not to proceed with the planned broadcast of Four Lions, which was scheduled for Monday,” a spokesman for Channel 4 said.
The satire from 2010, directed by Christopher Morris and produced by Film4 Productions and others, is about four disillusioned young Muslim British men who train to become suicide bombers and detonate explosives during the London Marathon.

“Four incompetent British jihadists set out to train for and commit an act of terror,” its IMDb page says about the plot. Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch played a negotiator in the film, according to the movie database.
The film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010 and made $4.7 million in box office in the U.K., according to IMDb.
Four Lions was scheduled to air on Channel 4’s movie network Film4 at 9pm on Monday, the day after the London Marathon. Instead, the channel will will air the comedy Role Models.
