Normandy’s quiet beaches will see some action when Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy hosts its French premiere at the 38th annual Deauville American Film Festival. The fest will also pay tribute to William Friedkin and Melvin Van Peebles with career homages.
As previously announced, producer Paula Wagner will also be honored with a career homage for her work.
The Bourne Legacy’s premiere will feature a visit from Gilroy and the film’s talents Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. The franchise’s first three titles were presented at the festival so “it’s only natural that the festival be loyal to Jason” organizers said of the film’s title character.

The French Connection director Friedkin will reconnect with his Gallic friends as they honor his long career and screen his latest title, Killer Joe, starring Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch and Juno Temple. Friedkin will give a Master Class for festgoers on Sept. 2.
Van Peebles “is recognized today as one of the more important filmmakers in American cinema history, having influenced and paved the way for an entire generation,” the fest said.
While this year’s festival is looking to be a nostalgic look at U.S. film history, Deauville is also embracing the future with a Twitter feed at @lpscinema #deauville and Facebook page.
The full lineup for this year’s Deauville American Film Festival will be unveiled at a press conference on July 25th. The fest will run from Aug. 31–Sept. 9.
