TIZIANA FABI/AFP/Getty ImagesROME – Oscar hopeful Bradley Cooper, who earned his first Academy Award nomination for his work in the hit romance Silver Linings Playbook, was honored in Rome on Monday when the Capri, Hollywood Film Festival presented him with its actor of the year award.
It was just the latest in an avalanche of honors for the 38-year-old Cooper, who burst onto the scene in the 2009 comedy blockbuster The Hangover. Monday’s award — presented by festival founder Pascal Vicedomini and Oscar-nominated director and honorary president Lina Wertmueller — coincided with the Italian launch of Silver Linings Playbook, directed by David O. Russell.
The film enters wide release in Italy on March 7.
Silver Linings Playbook was the most celebrated film at the 17-year-old Capri fest, which ran Dec. 26-Jan. 2 on the scenic island of Capri off the coast of Naples. The movie also was selected as film of the year and honored with the festival’s audience award and the prize for best acting ensemble.
Michel Hazanavicus’ The Artist was Capri, Hollywood’s film of the year a year ago, and it went on to win five Oscars.
Silver Linings Playbook earned eight Oscar noms, including those for best picture, best actress (Jennifer Lawrence), best supporting actor (Robert De Niro), best supporting actress (Jacki Weaver), director and actor.
During the photo call and informal award ceremony, Cooper said that his next project, also directed by Russell, would co-star The Fighter‘s Christian Bale and hit theaters in 2014.
