Meet the Million Dollar Decorators who create Hollywood’s hottest homes:
Martyn Lawrence-Bullard The interior designer first came to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming an actor. Now his stage is the houses of some of the biggest names in the entertainment and fashion worlds: Cher, Sharon Osbourne, Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon. On tonight’s episode, he’s seen adding some “Latin spice” to the Hollywood Hills home of Daisy Fuentes. “You also see me go to Warner Brothers to use this $1 million machine that can blow up a photo to this enormous proportions. All the other studios go to them to use it. They took an a Cuban photograph by Michael Eastman that was maybe 5 inches by 4 inches and blew it up 15 feet tall by 8 feet wide.” In October, Rizzoli will publish his first book, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard: Live, Love, and Decorate with a forward by client Elton John.
Kathryn Ireland She started her career as a producer of such music videos as the Bangles “Walk Like an Egyptian” and Toto’s “Without Your Love.” Tonight, her rocky relationship with client Shannon Factor, wife of the one of the heirs of Max Factor, comes to a head. “The producer Art Linson is my neighbor. He watches every week with me. He says, ‘I am hooked. I just want to know who is going to fire who first, Shannon or Kathryn,’ ” says Ireland, who has done houses for David Mamet, Steve Martin and Robert Zemeckis.
Mary McDonald True or false: Was the wacky designer — clients include Glee‘s Ryan Murphy and 20th TV’s Jennifer Nicholson Salke — an inspiration for Megan Mullally’s Karen character on Will & Grace? Her Million Dollar Decorator co-star Nathan Turner says so on the show. But McDonald, contacted by phone, says the rumor, widely repeated online, simply isn’t true.
Jeffrey Alan Marks and Ross Cassidy The partners in Jeffrey Alan Marks Interior Design, who’ve done houses for Amber Valletta and Lost’s Jack Bender, are both former models. No wonder the producers of M.D.D. never fail to shoot them in various stages of undress. Tonight, the pair, also partners in their domestic life, are seen sharing a bath.
Nathan Turner He’s the most private of all the designers — Turner was the only one who wouldn’t let cameras into his house. But he calls his antiques shop in West Hollywood “an extension of my own home” and even has a picture of his family on a shelf at the store (636 N. Almont Drive, West Hollywood, CA 90069). “This was an old house I think built in the 30s so when people walk in they always say, ‘This feels like a house,’ ” says Turner, whose clients include Amanda Peet and Adrian Grenier.
Million Dollar Decorator‘s fifth episode airs tonight, June 28, on Bravo at 10/9c
