LONDON – Veteran rock legends Status Quo set Twitter alight after a report in The Daily Telegraph said the band is to make an action movie.
The band, led by Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, will play themselves in the film that will also include 12 of the band’s songs. The group started making a name for itself in the late 1960s, became known for its own brand of rock music dubbed boogie rock and had such hits as “Paper Plane” and “In the Army Now.” Status Quo has recorded more than 60 chart hits in the U.K., with 22 reaching the U.K. top 10.
BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show, hosted by Chris Evans, responded to the news by playing a montage of hits from the veteran rockers on the U.K.’s most popular morning radio show.
According to The Daily Telegraph, aside from Parfitt and Rossi, the cast will include Craig Fairbass and Jon Lovitz and is being directed and was written by Stuart St Paul. St Paul’s resume boasts work on Aliens and Batman, together with pop videos for songs such as Wild Boys by Duran Duran.
Shooting in Fiji, the movie takes its name, Bula Quo! from the island’s traditional greeting.
Parfitt and Rossi already boast an appearance – as themselves – on the U.K.’s long-running soap opera Coronation Street and told fans to “expect the unexpected” from the film.
One Twitter fan said he was “looking forward to a pleasant surprise” from the film, while another said while it might be a “vanity project,” it was the band’s money so “good luck to them.”
