The news site aims to make it easier for users to keep track of the day’s biggest stories and explore video, images and analysis as breaking news unfolds.
The Sky News site, part of BSkyB, in which Rupert Murdoch‘s News Corp. owns a 39 percent stake, has also simplified navigation, “so visitors can find and share content more easily,” the network said Wednesday.
“We went back to the drawing board to give video and rich interactive media a more central role in the site,” Sky News Online executive producer John Jelley said.
Other TV networks have also highlighted video content on its sites to take advantage of the growth in Internet video usage and opportunities to make money off advertising.
The channel also touted a weather section providing visitors a detailed three-hourly local forecast for their zip code, as well as a broader look at the national and international weather picture.
Sky News Digital head of editorial Andrew Hawken said: “Viewers will find the site easier to navigate, with all the top stories in one place and with much more detail, as well as additional benefits like a broader range of comment and analysis pieces and more detailed weather service.”
