The Hammer Museum has announced that it will be partnering with Burberry, the London-based global luxury brand, to support the upcoming exhibition “Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio,” on display Feb. 20 through May 24.
The exhibition will feature a sampling of projects by British designer Thomas Heatherwick and his studio, including displays of prototypes, large-scale models, photographs, film, and video footage.
Heatherwick is perhaps best known for his design of the ceremonial lighting of the 2012 Olympic Games torch in London. However, Heatherwick Studios is engaged in public and private architectural work in projects around the world including the U.K., Abu Dhabi, China and Singapore. The studio is also known for its inventive and innovative designs, such as the Rolling Bridge which crosses London’s Grand Union Canal.
“Thomas’s work will fascinate audiences as it arrives in Los Angeles for the first time — and we couldn’t think of a better partner than Burberry to help make it happen,” said Hammer Director Ann Philbin in a statement. Belying his national pride, Burberry CEO Christopher Bailey added in the release, “British design and architecture constantly inspire all of us here at Burberry so it is a real privilege to be able to support Thomas [Heatherwick] and his team in this exciting city.”
The exhibition will be curated by Brooke Hodge, deputy director of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and will be overseen by Hammer Museum’s curator Aram Moshayedi.
