Busy Philipps took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal that she was raped when she was 14 years old. According to the actress, she shared her story in light of Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whom Ford has accused of sexual assault.
“This is me at 14. The age I was raped,” Philipps wrote alongside what appears to be a school photo. “It’s taken me 25 years to say those words. I wrote about it in my book. I finally told my parents and sister about it 4 months ago.”
She added: “Today is the day we are silent no more. All of us. I’m scared to post this. I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now.”
It seems as through the Freaks and Geeks alum will open up more about her experience in her upcoming memoir, This Will Only Hurt a Little, due in stores on Oct. 16.
Philipps’ social media admission comes hours after Ford took the stand against Kavanaugh in front of the State Judiciary Committee on Thursday morning. In her opening statement, Ford said, “I am terrified. I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school.”
Ford has accused Trump’s high-court nominee of sexually assaulting her during a summer-house gathering in 1982 in Montgomery County, Maryland, when she would have been 15. Ford said that during the incident, Kavanaugh held her down on a bed, attempted to remove her clothes and put his hand over her mouth to muffle her cries. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
Since Ford went public with her allegations against Kavanaugh, two other women — Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick — have also come out to share stories of the politician’s alleged behavior.
Ramirez claimed that while attending Yale University with Kavanaugh, he exposed himself at a dorm party where alcohol was present, put his penis in her face and then, as she pushed him away, caused her to touch his genitals without her consent. In a three-page sworn declaration, Swetnick said she witnessed Kavanaugh “consistently engage in excessive drinking and inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with women in the early 1980s.”
Kavanugh has denied both Ramirez and Swetnick’s accusations.
