Caitlyn Jenner’s second interview with Diane Sawyer, two years after the interview she did as she was transitioning, is airing tonight on ABC. The network released a few preview clips of Jenner’s interview, in which she talks about her evolved views on same-sex marriage and how she feels about the Republican party’s views on transgender issues.
“I am 100 percent behind gay marriage. Let’s clear that up right now,” said Jenner, who in the past had not been solidly supportive of same-sex marriage. She said that while it was an evolving process for her, now, “I am all for it.”
“Are you still a Trump Republican?” asked Sawyer.
“Yes, I did vote for Trump, but here’s the deal-breaker with the Republican party,” Jenner said. “And the deal-breaker is, you mess with my community, you do the wrong thing with our community, you don’t give us equality and a fair shot, I’m coming after you.”
“When it comes to all equality issues for the entire LGBT community, what we need is federal guidance,” she said. “Just like the previous administration said that it was OK to serve as a trans person in the military.” Jenner highlighted that the military has transgender soldiers fighting “on the frontlines.”
“I’m trying to get, especially the Republican party, to make a change,” she continued.
When asked if she’s spoken to Trump about trans issues, Jenner said she greeted him at a cocktail party during the inauguration. Trump asked Jenner to play golf with him.
“At the time I thought it was a pretty good idea, but since Title IX it’s not a good idea and so I won’t be playing golf with him,” said the reality star, referring to Trump’s decision to rescind guidelines protecting transgender students’ rights to use the bathroom corresponding with their gender identity.
As far as her personal life goes, Jenner said she is happy and peaceful post-transition. As far as dating goes, she doesn’t see it in her future. “I’ve never been out on a date,” said Jenner.
