Vanity Fair successfully kept every aspect of Caitlyn Jenner’s headline-making cover shoot tightly under wraps — even having the team sign NDAs — but the magazine has now revealed what went on behind the scenes. The glam team, which Kim Kardashian said she helped Jenner select, consisted of master makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo, hair styling legend Oribe and celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann.

While the first two worked on Jenner’s hair and face, Lippmann (who also works on celebrities including Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep) became the very first professional manicurist to ever touch her nails. Apparently Caitlyn has always done them on her own.
The manicurist told VF that the cover shoot “opened my heart, and it opened my eyes, and I feel so blessed to be a part of it.” The look she gave Jenner started with filing her nails into an elongated almond shape; she used no nail extensions, only her natural nails.

Next, Lippmann prepped her hands with an array of her eponymous hand and nail formulas, and finally she chose a bold red nail lacquer for her manicure. “The color red was a statement throughout, and Lady Is a Tramp ($18) was it! And of course Caitlyn laughed when I told her the name of the shade,” she shared with the magazine.
“She was so happy to be a girl, and she was so at ease. Her attitude was very much, ‘Let’s do it!’ and she enjoyed every moment of it,” Lippmann told VF. Clearly this inaugural manicure was very much a success.
