Camila Cabello officially went solo at the Billboard Music Awards, marking her first performance of her debut single, “Crying in the Club,” since leaving Fifth Harmony.
The singer started her performance by emotionally singing her recently released song “I Have Questions” before transitioning into her new “Crying in the Club” dance anthem. Donning sparkly gold attire, Cabello danced amid male backup dancers and drummers as fires burned behind them. During the middle of her performance, Cabello and her dancers broke out into an energetic dance break.

“Crying in the Club” was released May 18, with a music video following soon after. The video has received positive reviews, with famous stars such as Lorde and Shawn Mendes sharing their love and support for the now-solo singer.

Prior to her performance, Cabello had actively posted her rehearsals on social media, showing herself working hard to assure that her first performance was one to be remembered.

The same day as her BBMA performance, Cabello released “I Have Questions,” a song off her forthcoming debut album. Cabello has spoken about the emotional tune, describing it as one she wrote on the bathroom floor while on tour last year with her former girl group. The singer shared an Apple Music teaser of the making of the song, describing the writing process as an “emotion bombing” and one that allowed her to get everything off her chest.
For this year’s ceremony, the singer was nominated for her collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly on their hit single, “Bad Things.”
The Billboard Music Awards is airing live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Vanessa Hudgens and Ludacris are this year’s ceremony’s hosts. This year’s show marks Ludacris’ fourth time hosting, whereas this is Hudgens’ first.
