TORONTO – Breakthrough Entertainment has picked up the U.S. and international distribution rights, excluding Canada, to Jason Priestley’s narrative theatrical directorial debut Cas & Dylan, which stars Richard Dreyfuss and Tatiana Maslany.
The deal with film producer Montefiore Films marks a major coup for Breakthrough’s newly-established film sales division, led by Marina Cordoni, VP of movies.
“The acquisition of Cas & Dylan reflects Breakthrough Entertainment’s drive to become a pre-eminent global film distribution force through representation of high-profile, top-quality movie entertainment with the best and brightest in independent feature production,” Cordoni said after inking the distribution deal for Breakthrough, a longtime Canadian TV producer.
Cas & Dylan, which is to start production this coming week, sees Dreyfuss play Dr. Cas Pepper, a dying man whose plans to check out on his own terms takes a reluctant detour when he winds up on the lam with a young woman, played by Maslany.
Priestley (Call Me Fitz; Beverly Hills, 90210) will direct the Canadian indie film from a script by Jessie Gabe (Being Erica).
Mark Montefiore, who is producing Cas & Dylan, earlier produced the sketch comedy TV series Picnicface for Breakthrough Entertainment.
Production is to run from August 20 to September 25 in Sudbury, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta.
Pacific Northwest Pictures will release the picture in Canada.
