TORONTO – Rogers Broadcasting is rolling out Canada’s Got Talent, the Canadian version of the international Got Talent franchise, with a steady hand at the wheel: former CTV and CBC programming topper Ed Robinson.
Robinson last month joined Rogers Broadcasting as executive producer after leaving rival CTV in 2009 as executive vice president.
The veteran programmer worked for 13 years at CTV, having come over from the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. to launch the private network’s The Comedy Network channel.
Canada’s Got Talent, from indie producer Insight Productions, will air on Rogers’ Citytv stations, starting in spring 2012.
Robinson and Insight are now looking for Canadian plate spinners, dancers and fire breathers at six upcoming Canada’s Got Talent auditions in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto in September and October.
Canada’s Got Talent is based on the format from FremantleMedia and Syco Entertainment, and will be executive produced by John Brunton and Barbara Bowlby.
