PARIS — French pay TV giant Canal Plus and Disney have announced a deal to make the studio’s catalog available through the CanalPlay Infinity VOD service beginning March 1.
The deal will give CanalPlay Infinity subscribers access to the Disney and Pixar library as part of its SVOD service across all screens, including traditional TV, tablets, game consoles and Internet through canalplay.com.
Included are classics such as Bambi, Alice in Wonderland and Aladdin as well as newer Pixar offerings like Cars, WALL-E and A Bug’s Life. Live-action films from Mary Poppins through the Pirates of the Caribbean series also will be available.
“We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with Disney Group and thus to become the first subscription VOD platform to offer to its subscribers a catalog of such iconic and prestigious animated Disney titles,” said Patrick Holzman, director of CanalPlay.
Launched in 2011, CanalPlay Infinity makes a back catalog of films available on demand through varied subscriptions of €6.99 or €9.99 per month, depending on the number of devices used. The service does not offer new titles until three years after their release, but will introduce new titles monthly.
CanalPlay Infinity already has a vast catalog of films from major French studios including Gaumont, Pathe and SND M6 as well as U.S. series including Castle, Criminal Minds and Gossip Girl.
