The Hollywood Reporter provides an exclusive first look at Daniel Noah‘s new drama Max Rose, which will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday evening. There is considerable excitement about that event along the Croisette, not only because it will showcase the first leading role of legendary funnyman Jerry Lewis in 23 years and only his second in the last 30 years — he last headlined Funny Bones (1995), and before that Martin Scorsese‘s The King of Comedy (1981) — but also because Lewis himself, a cult figure here in France, will be making the trip to the fest to attend the premiere and a special homage to his incomparable career, including a special screening of his classic The Ladies Man (1961).
Max Rose, which also features the great Claire Bloom, as well as noted comedian Kevin Pollack, Argo star Kerry Bishe and veteran comic Mort Sahl, tells the story of a jazz pianist who re-examines his past after the death of his wife and discovers that everything may not be as it had long seemed.
