The Capri, Hollywood International Film Festival will be dedicated to screen legend Elizabeth Taylor this year. The City of Anacapri will host a retrospective dedicated to the star, who won three Academy Awards and four Golden Globes over her career. There will also be an exhibition dedicated to her life work and activism. Taylor was a founder of amfAR, leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“Like every year since its inception, the festival is dedicated to a leading film icon who helped disseminate the ‘myth’ of Capri around the world,” said festival director Pascal Vicedomini. “Liz Taylor was one of the protagonists of Capri’s ‘dolce vita.’ She was deeply in love with the island and was a regular visitor since the end of the ‘50s, becoming an ambassador of the island among her Hollywood peers.”
Taylor famously began her relationship with Richard Burton while filming Cleopatra on set in nearby Ischia. They were chased by paparazzi while on holiday in Capri, and often returned to the picturesque island.
Capri, Hollywood takes place over the New Year holiday and has traditionally been a key stop on the Academy Awards publicity circuit, attracting top Oscar contenders and key talent for film screenings, panels and discussions.
The 22nd edition of Capri, Hollywood, the International Film Festival, takes place Dec. 26, 2017-Jan. 2, 2018.
