Cara Delevingne’s Debut Novel Is Coming This Fall

Cara Delevingne may or may not have just written a book. 

To be clear, there is definitely a novel titled Mirror, Mirror, that is being produced as we speak, and which definitely has Delevingne’s name on it. 

The model turned actress turned maybe novelist on Monday posted on Instagram a photo of herself holding a draft of the 356-page work, with the words “By Cara Delevingne” stamped beneath the title. 

“Another pinch me moment!!” she captioned the post for the book, which is due out Oct. 5 and is currently available for pre-order. Delevingne expounds that the work is a “twisty coming-of-age story” about a group of music-loving teens (with the super-trendy names Red, Leo, Naima and Rose) who are, you know, “just trying to figure out who they are” — until Naima’s sudden, unexplained death.

“It’s a journey that will cause Red’s world to crumble, exposing the dark and dangerous truth behind the fragile surface of their existence,” reads the description on Amazon. “Nothing will ever be the same again, because once a mirror is shattered, it can’t be fixed.”

But whether or not Delevingne herself put pen to paper remains to be seen. She does not admit to using a ghostwriter, per se, but then again, she doesn’t deny it, either. What she did say was that “the process of putting this novel together has been life changing and something I hold really close to my heart!!” 

The 24-year-old isn’t alone in the pop star turned novelist club, either. Remember Lauren Conrad’s L.A. Candy YA series? Or Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s Lex and Liv sci-fi works? And let’s not forget Pamela Anderson’s 2004 classic Star. With Delevingne’s access — she snagged a starring role in the 2015 film adaptation of John Green’s Paper Towns —  perhaps she did manage to recruit an all-star writing team.  

The book is being published by Trapeze, an imprint of Orion, which recently published parody cookbook Stranger Fillings and “Instapoet” Nikita Gill’s debut book. 

Regardless of her involvement, however, the themes of mental illness and partying are two subjects about which Delevingne has been candid during her time in the spotlight, so at least the darker scenes will have an added edge of authenticity. “I want us to talk about this time in life, self discovery, friendship, pain, triumph!!” she added in her caption, suggesting a book club. “Being a teenager!! The experiences that shape YOU!”
