Carla Hacken has been named president of production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE), the company announced Monday. The veteran studio executive will take her new post March 17.
Hacken, who will oversee all of SKE’s film and television activities, most recently inked a first look producing deal at DreamWorks. Prior to that, she had launched her own production company — Paper Pictures — in early 2013, after doing a short stint at New Regency Productions as president of production. Notably, Hacken worked at Fox 2000 for 15 years: she originally was hired by Laura Ziskin as senior vp production and ultimately served as the company’s executive vp production.
During her tenure at Fox 2000, she oversaw the development and production of numerous films, including Walk the Line, The Devil Wears Prada, Unfaithful, The Family Stone and both the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Percy Jackson franchises.
“Carla is a dynamic, creative executive who brings with her a wealth of experience and an undisputed respect and standing in the business. Her leadership, insights and obvious skills will be invaluable to SKE as we expand our film and television production,” said Jim Tauber, SKE president, in a statement.
As part of her production deal at DreamWorks, Hacken set up the sci-fi trilogy Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig, to be published by Simon & Schuster in 2014; and the non-fiction book proposal The Noble Assassin along with Michael Sugar and Anonymous Content. Hacken hopes to bring some of her projects to SKE.
Prior to Fox 2000, Hacken, who graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Dramatic Creative Writing, was an agent at ICM.
“I am truly looking forward to working with Sidney and Jim. SKE is aggressively developing and producing numerous projects, and Sidney and Jim have an exciting vision for the company. I am thrilled to dive in and help SKE realize that vision,” said Hacken in a statement.
