Carly Rae Jepsen kicked the summer off with the release of her song “Cut to the Feeling” on Friday. The track was written during sessions for Jepsen’s most recent album, Emotion, but will now be featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming film Leap! coming to theaters Aug. 30.
The theatrical, poppy ballad intertwines Jepsen’s signature ‘80s sound with exciting trills, breathy harmonies and a catchy hook. “I wanna cut through the clouds, break the ceiling/ I wanna dance on the roof, you and me alone/ I wanna cut to the feeling, oh yeah,” Jepsen sings in the chorus.
Leap! follows two friends on an adventure as they travel to Paris in hopes of following their dreams. The cast includes Elle Fanning, Nat Wolff, Maddie Ziegler, Mel Brooks and Kate McKinnon. Jepsen voices the prima ballerina named Odette. Jepsen will be featured on the film’s soundtrack twice, with her latest track and another song called “Runaways,” which has yet to be released.
