The legendary designer Carolina Herrera, founder and designer of her eponymous fashion label for the past 37 years, has announced that she will be stepping into a new role as global brand ambassador beginning on Feb. 13.
The 31-year-old designer Wes Gordon, who has worked with Herrera as a creative consultant for the past 11 months, has been named the new creative director, beginning with the resort 2019 collection.
Word is that Herrera’s longtime friends, Calvin Klein and Bianca Jagger, will be in the crowd on Monday evening when the 79-year-old Herrera presents her final collection for fall 2018 at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) during New York Fashion Week.
The Venezuelan-born, New York-based designer has made a crisp white blouse her style signature, creating iterations of it ever since her first collection in 1981. Always poised and polished, Herrera upholds the seemingly disappearing arts of entertaining and etiquette.
She has dressed a long list of A-listers, including Michelle Obama, Nicole Kidman, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Lopez, Renee Zellweger, Emmy Rossum, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Simpson, Camilla Belle and Sofia Vergara.
Last month, Kidman donned a romantic floor-length lilac dress from Herrera’s pre-fall 2018 collection to the Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts Awards in L.A.
Sarah Paulson, styled by Karla Welch, memorably wore a straight-off-the-spring-2018-runway silver sequined gown with puff sleeves to the Emmys last year.
