Michael Loccisano/Getty ImagesTORONTO – Hot on the heels of its NBC Isabel adaptation deal, Quebec TV producer Sphère Média Plus has hired Carolyn Newman away from Breakthrough Films & Television to run its new Toronto office.
Newman, whose TV credits at Breakthrough as head of development included HBO Canada’s Less Than Kind and Producing Parker, will serve as VP of development, English markets, North America at Sphère Média Plus.
The hire follows NBC in November buying the adaptation rights to the Quebec comedy Le Monde de Charlotte, and currently developing an Isabel pilot, with Marcia Gay Harden and Sophia Schloss to star.
Sphère Média Plus president Jocelyn Deschênes and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment are executive producing.
Howard Busgang and Tom Nursall are writing the pilot script, and executive producing.
Le Monde de Charlotte aired on the Radio-Canada network from 2000 to 2004.
