James Corden prepared for his Tony Awards hosting gig in the best way possible, with a special Broadway edition of “Carpool Karaoke.”
The Late Late Show host picked up four Broadway stars, Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Shuffle Along‘s Audra McDonald, Fully Committed‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson and She Loves Me’s Jane Krakowski, as he made his way to the Beacon Theater, which hosts the Tonys on June 12.
Corden had all four “awwwing” when he suggested singing “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent. “Hang on. Hang on, wait. That was the most Broadway response to hearing an opening of a song,” Corden said as he put the music on.
There was also a rousing rendition of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” before Corden asked Ferguson and Krakowski, who both star in hit TV shows, which they preferred “theater or money.” Diplomatically, Ferguson, with the others in the car nodding in agreement, said there was “nothing like live theater.”
Things ended with an incredible, seemingly improvised version of “One More Day” from Les Miserables.
Take a bow, everybody.
