Catherine Zeta-Jones Is “Shocked and Disgusted” by Harvey Weinstein Claims

Catherine Zeta-Jones said she is “shocked and disgusted” by the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, saying she is “profoundly proud” of the women who have come forward.

Zeta-Jones — who won her best supporting actress Oscar for Chicago, which was produced by Weinstein’s Miramax in 2002 — said she had not been among the many actresses allegedly harassed by Weinstein or throughout her years in Hollywood. “No — and I’m blessed because it happens to so many women all the time.”

Speaking at MIPCOM’s Women in Global Entertainment lunch, she also called Weinstein’s alleged behavior the “ultimate abuse of power.”

With Weinstein dominating talk at MIPCOM, Zeta-Jones remarked that it is dominating the headlines around the world. “It’s hard to think that in 2017 we are still talking about this and that it’s the lead story on the international news, but it is right that it is there. It should be the lead story,” she said.

“I hope that the fall from grace that this man has had — you’re never too big to fail — is a  lesson to all those who have questioned if this behavior is acceptable…. I think the attention is due and I really believe that if this is not the tipping point, it’s at least some kind of turning point.”

She added: “That big old dinosaur of people who think a man is able to get away with that behavior and has been getting away with it for years, is extinct as of now.”
