In-demand supermodels and celebrities are well-versed in jetting across New York City from the front row of one high-profile fashion show to another during fashion’s busiest weeks of the year. But darting from Chanel’s 2015 Cruise show in Seoul, Korea, to Anna Wintour‘s 20th annual Costume Institute Gala in New York City on the same night? A physical impossibility.
That’s right, in the biggest calendar conflict the fashion world has perhaps ever seen, both the Parisian label and the Vogue editor’s main events (her’s themed, “China: Through the Looking Glass”) are scheduled for May 4, an apparently unavoidable scheduling snafu.
In Karl Lagerfeld‘s world, Chanel had planned on May 11 for its big show at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, according to WWD, but because Dior set its own cruise show for May 9 in Los Angeles, they were forced to go with a backup date. The only one that was possible, presumably, was the same as Wintour’s gala, which she’s chaired since 1995. “We had committed to bringing our cruise collection to our Korean clients and May 4 was the only possible date,” said the design house.
“Chanel is very much dedicated to supporting the Anna Wintour Costume Institute Benefit this year as we always have. We greatly respect the incredible contributions Anna Wintour and The Metropolitan Museum of Art have made toward the preservation, education and celebration of the art of fashion, and are proud to be a supporter of this important institution,” Chanel added.
So the dates are set and the lists are being compiled. Now the big question remains: Team Lagerfeld or Team Wintour?
