Channing Tatum fans got a detailed look at the actor’s chiseled physique Wednesday when Warner Bros. debuted a red-band trailer for Magic Mike. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Haywire), the film focuses on Tatum’s title character, a veteran stripper teaching newcomer “The Kid” (Alex Pettyfer) the ropes.
Running only a minute in length, the clip, which premiered on DigitalSpy.com, scarcely seems long enough to reveal anything meaningful about the film – that is, unless wall-to-wall male flesh isn’t enough to get audiences into theaters. In an oddly appropriate transition from his previous film, the box office success 21 Jump Street, at the beginning of the trailer Tatum interrupts a party dressed as a cop, only to detain a comely female partygoer and give her a strip search that mostly involves removing his own clothing, not hers.
Intercut with a conversation between Mike and Zora (Riley Keough), a young woman skeptical of his choice of professions), the stripper and his colleagues (who include Matthew McConaghey, Joe Mangianello and Matt Bomer) fully utilize their bathing-suit area and hump a remarkable series of women while dressed, or really undressed, in costume as firemen and cowboys. After she questions why he does it, he responds simply, “It’s easy — women, money and a good time.”
Watch the video below for a more, uh, in-depth look at Tatum and company in action. Magic Mike is being released nationwide June 29.
