Following last Wednesday’s killing of nine people at the historic Emanuel church in Charleston, South Carolina, Rent the Runway has removed a “Charleston” reference — which was used as a descriptor for floral summer dresses — from their homepage.
Racked first pointed out that the “Charleston Wedding” banner, which was (as of last Thursday) written in a large cursive script on the site’s homepage promotion of their pastel dress collection, has been updated today to read, “Southern Weddings.”
The text below the banner was also altered from “Southern charm is all about pastels, florals and lace” to “Pastels, florals and lace are designed to charm.”

Though the whole ordeal appears to be simply a case of terrible timing, it’s encouraging to see that Rent the Runway is being sensitive to the devastating event.
