Charlie Sheen has announced that he will donate one percent of the profits from his new FX show Anger Management to the USO, guaranteeing a minimum donation of $1 million with an unlimited cap on the final donation amount to the military aid organization. This donation is among the largest contributions ever from an individual to the organization as well as the first time the USO received a percentage of the profits from an actor’s television show.
The funds have been earmarked for the USO’s Operation Enduring Care campaign, which is helping to build two new USO Centers to support ill and injured troops and their families. One will be at Walter Reed/Bethesda Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, the other at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
“The USO would like to thank Charlie Sheen for his very generous $1 million donation to our Operation Enduring Care Campaign and his interest in helping us lift the spirits of those who have endured so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy daily,” said General John I. Pray, Jr., executive vice president of the USO. “His support is greatly appreciated, especially from our wounded warriors and their families.”
Sheen says of his donation: “It’s an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us. They put their lives on the line for us every day, and I’m just happy that my work on Anger Management can bring a little bit of relief to the troops and their families.”
The USO is a private, non profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services at hundreds of locations around the world.
Through his donations, Sheen has proven to be a man of his word by donating $25,000 to an Alabama Tornado Relief organization in January. It seems as if the actor has truly turned over a new leaf.
Sheen’s new show Anger Management airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
