Charlize Theron is laying down roots in the reality business.
On the heels of selling competition series Glam Wars to the Style network, her Denver & Delilah Productions has formed a joint venture with Bunim/Murray Productions to develop and produce more unscripted programming.
Already, the newly formed company has optioned U.S. rights to Israeli reality format Whose Closet Is It Anyway? from Keshet International (Homeland). Additional projects include Passport to Love, based on Banijay Group’s Norwegian reality dating series Origins of Love, among other original ideas.
“Charlize and her Denver & Delilah team have wonderful instincts and a fresh perspective, which we think is a big plus in creating and selling reality television,” said Jonathan Murray, chairman of Bunim/Murray Productions (Real World, Keeping Up with the Kardashians).
Added Bunim/Murray president Gil Goldschein: “This partnership makes sense for Bunim/Murray as we continue to develop new programming with top talent across broadcast and cable. As we developed Glam Wars, we realized there were so many possible projects to partner on, and this joint venture is a natural evolution.”
Colleen Ocean Hall, formerly of Original Media, has been named senior vp development for the joint venture. In her tenure in the unscripted space, Ocean Hall has consulted for Style, Game Show Network and ABC Media Productions.
Glam Wars will take viewers behind the scenes as hair and makeup “glam squads” try to land top jobs. Theron serves as executive producer alongside AJ Dix, Beth Kono, Murray and Goldschein.
For its part, Closet explores what would happen if someone swapped your entire closet with somebody else’s. In each episode, three women, each with a distinct style sense, trade their entire closets and have to cope with each of the other women’s wardrobes.
Theron is repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson. Denver & Delilah developed drama pilot Hatfields & McCoys at ABC earlier this year; the project was ultimately passed over.
