Getty ImagesNEW YORK — After reprising his Spock role this summer in Star Trek Into Darkness, Zachary Quinto will opt for a change of pace by making his Broadway debut in The Glass Menagerie.
Quinto will take on the part of conflicted son Tom Wingfield in Tennessee Williams‘ classic 1944 memory play, starring opposite two-time Tony Award winner Cherry Jones (Doubt, The Heiress) as his high-strung mother, Amanda.
Directed by John Tiffany, a 2012 Tony winner for the hit musical Once, the production was first seen earlier this year at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass. It also stars Celia Keenan-Bolger as Laura and Brian J. Smith as the Gentleman Caller.

In a rave review in The New York Times, Ben Brantley called Quinto’s work “a benchmark performance,” describing the production as more of a rejuvenation than a revival. Assessing Jones’ take on one of the greatest roles for women in American theater, Brantley wrote: “she’s both even more than you hoped for and not at all what you might have expected.”
The Broadway transfer will play a limited 17-week engagement, beginning previews Sept. 5 at a Shubert theater to be announced, with the official opening set for Sept. 26. Lead producers are Jeffrey Richards and John N. Hart.
The production reunites Tiffany with his Once creative team of Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting) and Clive Goodwin (sound), all of whom also picked up Tonys last year.
While Quinto is new to Broadway, he made a splash in his first New York stage appearance in a 2010 Off Broadway revival of Tony Kushner‘s Angels in America.
The Glass Menagerie was last seen on Broadway in a 2005 production that starred Jessica Lange, Christian Slater, Sarah Paulson and Josh Lucas.
