South Korean’s CJ CGV inked a deal with China’s Dalian Wanda Group to showcase its 4DX cinema technology in Chinese theaters next year, CGV announced on Wednesday.
The immersive 4DX system developed by CJ Group is designed to re-create the film’s environment with vibrating chairs as well as wind, fog and scent-based effects in a climate-controlled room. Under the recent contract, Wanda Group, the world’s largest operator of movie theaters, will launch five 4DX theaters across various locations beginning with the Dalian Ganghui branch in Dalian, China, in February 2015.

“The deal with Wanda Group is very valuable in that it could help 4DX make headway into the much coveted Chinese market,” said Choi Byung-hwan, CEO of CJ 4DX. “We would like to offer the special multisensory experience to more Chinese audiences.”
The technology has been installed in 128 theaters in 28 countries across the world, including China and the U.S. In 2013, the system broke $10 million in exports in that year alone.
