Christian Bale has added his condolences to the growing list of statements made by cast and crew members associated with The Dark Knight Rises in the wake of Thursday’s shooting in Colorado.
“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” Bale said in a statement. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”
At a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, a young man opened fire on the crowd, killing 12 and injuring at least 50 more. (Final numbers have not yet been made available.) Warner Bros. has since canceled premieres and press opportunities around the world, and announced that in respect for the victims of the shooting, the studio would not release box office numbers for the film until Monday.
Bale’s statement follows one from Christopher Nolan, where the writer-director of the film said, “Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families.”
