Comedy Central will “Address the Mess.”
Comedy Central executive vp and GM Michele Ganeless said the network is launching a pro-social campaign encouraging viewers to be more environmentally savvy. Bowing today, the national public service campaign will plug an interactive Web site — AddressTheMess.com — to educate viewers on environmental issues.
” ‘Address the Mess’ takes on a critical issue at a critical time with a flexible and far-reaching approach,” Ganeless said. “The ‘Address the Mess’ message will extend across multiple Comedy Central platforms and support people looking to make a difference not just on the national and global scale but on an individual level and in their own communities.”
The network’s goal is to make viewers aware of their environmental impact and give them ideas on how to reduce it, specifically regarding proper disposal of such items as alkaline batteries, motor oil and e-ware like old cell phones. It also will promote community clean-up projects and the restoration of historic buildings.
The campaign promotion will stretch across on-air and online platforms as well as Comedy Central’s live stand-up tours.
Along with NativeEnergy, a company that specializes in marketing carbon offsets and renewable energy credits, the network will put theory into practice with its first carbon neutral production, the “Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav.”
