Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will end their Key & Peele run on Comedy Central with the wrap of its fifth and current season, Comedy Central confirmed Saturday.
Peele tweeted Saturday morning “Don’t miss the last 8 episodes!” in reference to the ending of the current season.
Key and Peele co-created and star in the Comedy Central show, which debuted in 2012.
Comedy Central announced in March 2014 that the network is teaming with the pair and creating an animated spinoff based on their Critiquer’s Corner “Vandaveon & Mike” characters. The animated program will feature the characters as 12-year-old hall monitors navigating their way through junior high.
Both comedians created “Vandaveon & Mike” as a humorous way to provide commentary on episodes of their own show and have since been added to on-demand episodes of the Comedy Central series.
Key is nominated for a supporting actor in a comedy series Emmy for Key & Peele, which also scored a variety sketch series nom.
The news comes as Comedy Central prepares its Aug. 6 farewell to Daily Show host and signature voice Jon Stewart, who will be replaced by relative unknown Trevor Noah later this fall. Late last year, the younger-skewing network lost Stephen Colbert, who followed one-time Daily Show contributor and summer fill-in John Oliver out the door. Colbert will launch his new late-night entry in September on CBS, while Oliver continues winning over critics and Academy members on HBO.
Don’t miss the last 8 episodes!
